What fire classes is an ABE extinguisher rated for?

ABE dry powder extinguishers use monoammonium phosphate powder and are rated for Class A (paper, wood, textiles), Class B (flammable liquids), Class C (combustible gases) and Class E (electrically energised equipment) fires, manufactured to AS/NZS 1841.5.

The exact rating (e.g. 6A:60B:C:E) varies by extinguisher size — check the individual product page for the specific rating.

What sizes of ABE extinguisher does FireFX stock?

We stock ABE dry powder extinguishers from 0.75kg portable units up to 9kg, plus 25kg and 50kg mobile (trolley-mounted) units for larger commercial and industrial sites.

Can I pick up an ABE extinguisher from a warehouse?

Yes — ABE extinguishers are stocked in all of our warehouses, so they’re normally available for local pickup or fast shipping no matter which state you’re in. Check the Pickup Stock Availability panel on each product page for live stock by location.

Does my ABE extinguisher come with a bracket and service tag?

Yes — every ABE extinguisher comes with a service tag attached. Extinguishers 2.5kg and above also include a standard wall-mounting bracket.

Having the tag stamped with a start-of-service date is available as an optional extra — select “Stamp Maintenance Tag” under the product’s extras before adding to cart if you’d like this done for you.

Is ABE powder safe to use on electrical equipment?

Yes — ABE dry powder is non-conductive, and our ABE extinguishers are rated for Class E (electrically energised equipment) fires. As with any extinguisher, keep as much distance as practical from live electrical equipment and follow the instructions on the label.

Can I get my ABE extinguisher recharged through FireFX?

No — ABE extinguishers aren’t part of our recharge program. When an ABE unit reaches its service point, or has been discharged, it’s disposed of and replaced with a new extinguisher rather than recharged.

If you need to responsibly dispose of an old ABE unit, our Fire Extinguisher Disposal service accepts ABE extinguishers.

How often does an ABE extinguisher need to be serviced?

Under AS 1851, ABE extinguishers require a 6-monthly visual/tag inspection and a 5-yearly hydrostatic pressure test.
